Go to the store and buy 1 silver/black and 1 all white worden’s origional rooster tail 1/6 oz - walk up and down whatever water you are at and just throw and retrieve it over and over again - I promise you will catch fish doing that - you want to retrieve only fast enough to make the silver spoon twirl around at a constant rate

how much did you end up getting for the box and tools? Not trying to bring you down, just genuinely curious what these boxes realistically sell for second hand.

6’6” uglystick GX2 is my go to rod. Reels I will only use Shimano. The old school Mitchell 300 is a good reel for catfishing. But I cannot get over that loud clicking when you reel them in. I tried bait casting before and I spent more time getting out birds nests than actual fishing. I could practice in the back yard well but got to the lake and just would get a nest.

point your rod tip up in the air at a 45 on push your thumb bar and let the bait drop if it makes a bird nest then tight up the knob by the handle till it doesn't back lash anymore and the one on the other side is if your getting backlash at the end of your cast when when the bait hits the water but if you want a real good reel that's hard to backlash get a dc reel

I recommend almost all the icon hand tools I haven’t tried any of their specialty tools or Diag scanner etc like that so I can’t speak to that but there hand too,d for the price warranty and availability can’t be best I used the half inch 19mm to take tires loose as a mobile tech for 2 years it broke once and it broke on a g37 shock strut mounting bolt and I was using it on my 1/2 ultra torque impact.

The zip ties are for theft prevention from Walmart most stores do that without it those reels would be stolen so fast. Just cut them off

Get yourself some moss green braided line for your baitcaster you’ll never regret running braid. I use 30lb on my baitcasters but a lot of guys use 65lb for punching through grass with top water gear. I even run 15lb braid on my spinning rods and a flourocarbon liter line if it’s water with decent visibility. I fish all over San Diego county but you made me want to do a trip to Joshua tree. Also wacky rig is no joke. Get some Yamamoto green pumpkin 5” senkos with a size 4 wide gap finesse hook. Can also rig up the senko with a Texas rig for a different presentation. Cheap, and easy to learn, always catches when the other stuff your throwing is slow

Once you get used to a bait caster you won’t go back. I only use spinning gear for ultra light stuff. Once you get the hang of it you will have the brake back off and barely doing anything

Baitcasters are a fun way to fish. The learning curve is not that bad. Once you get the hang of it you will be having a ball.

Baitcaster is about setting it up for each lure, adjusting the drag, and keep your thumb on the spool when casting. It takes practice, but hard to beat the accuracy once you learn it.

Dude you have to adjust the reel to each different weight lure..Push the button let it fall to the ground and when the lure hits the ground the spool should stop spinning..For starters set the spool tight and loosen as you get better..Nothing worse than a backlash .. Research adjusting baitcaster to lure.

Haven’t watched the whole thing yet but highly recommend watching a YT video on setting the drag so you doing birds nest that bad boy. It sucks lol

If the water is clear do not use braid unless using a fluorocarbon leader.
